Jeremy stops by the Mystic Grill to pick up a To Go order of food. He'd rather Elena be dead than hate him for letting Matt die, which is a bit messed up. Tyler soon begins to groan in pain. Elena tells Damon that she cares for him but Stefan has always been there for her. She never actually turns down Damon, either, telling him that, if only they had met first, she might love him more.
As he begins to pour out her stock of Vampire blood, Alaric tells her that the council will be notifying the medical board and getting her medical license suspended. On the same bridge on which Elena's parents died, she drives the car off the road, and Matt and Elena end up stuck underwater. What if they were actually protecting themselves from their former witch-for-hire? Hugging her close, Elijah tells her that only Tyler died. Back at the storage unit, Alaric begins to slow down and Damon realizes that he is dying. Rebecca calls Stefan and tells him that since Klaus was dead, the deal was off. Suddenly, Elena wakes up gasping for air. Hearing the honk of her parents car, Elena tells Damon good bye.
But the big story of the week, the season, and the whole show, has been the love triangle. After a few minutes, Klaus finally settles Elijah down enough to try and convince him to trust him again. Flashing back, Elena remembers when she was at the bomb fire, waiting for her parents to arrive. Stefan falls in love with schoolgirl Elena, who has an uncanny resemblance to the Salvatore brothers old love, Katherine; and whose best friend Bonnie, is a witch. While that might sound like a ludicrous argument, it's actually a very well-placed line that would go on to dangle a carrot in front of 'Delena' fans in time for next season.
Not wanting to alarm Elena or Meredith, he tells them that he is fine. Allowing him inside, Elijah explains that he needs their help to obtain the white oak stake. Meredith tells Jeremy that Elena was going to be fine and that she just collapsed and bumped her head. She tells him that maybe if she had met him first, things would have been different. Stefan is noble, denying himself blood to avoid killing, and tries to control his evil brother Damon, who promised to Stefan an eternity of misery.
Stefan notices his good mood and comments on it. Can't have people knowing I'm in town yet. She tells Damon that she helped heal Elena. There's certainly a lot to get through this week on The Vampire Diaries, with The Departed seeing almost every character maimed, killed, almost killed, or killed and revived, before it settles down for a familiar, yet still exciting, fourth season tease. Knowing he was going to die, Tyler tells Caroline to tell his mother that he left town and not to say he was dead. Deciding to protect herself instead of sticking to the deal, Rebekah heads off to kill Elena, thus wiping out the Alaric threat and letting her live her life. Waking up, she realizes that she was actually in a hospital.
The flashbacks revealed how troubled their former dating life had really been, but present day Matt was actually the most hell-bent on saving his friend, when everyone else had all but abandoned her while they tried to figure out their own situations. But Alaric is still hanging around, and still on a mission to wipe out the vampire race, he promptly stakes Klaus in the heart. Determined to protect his sister, Jeremy makes a decision that will change everything. Jeremy calls Damon and Stefan to inform them on what had happened. The third season of The Vampire Diaries begins with Elena Gilbert';s 18th birthday with all series regulars returning with the exception of Sara Canning whose character Jenna Sommers was killed off in the previous season. After hanging up with Damon, Stefan turns around and sees Jeremy.
But, deep breath, the final twist reveals that, after her fall at the end of last week, Dr. The only way to protect them is for Tyler and Caroline to leave town. She soon begins to complain about how short the dresses are and how terrible the music was. Mayor Lockwood hands them an envelope of money and tells them that Sherriff Forbes will get them new identities. Not wanting to lie around anymore, Elena answers the door and sees Elijah standing there. After Jeremy leaves, Elena tells Stefan that lately, every time someone leaves the house, she is worried that they will never come back.
Stepping outside, Damon is soon attacked by Alaric. Having been listening on speaker phone, Damon tells them no. I told him it was Joe. Stefan tells Elena that he will do everything in his power to keep Jeremy safe. After a few minutes, Klaus finally settles Elijah down enough to try and convince him to trust him again. That lie, will haunt me, forever.
